Improve IAQ and Exceed LEED Requirements with New Low Pressure Drop, MERV 15 Two-Inch Filters

DALLAS, TX – August 2, 2007 – Businesses that want the clean-air and sustainable-design benefits of high MERV filters now have the option of using new MERV 15 two-inch filters in Lennox® rooftop units. Based on the latest ASHRAE 52.2-2007 standard, Lennox’ new MERV 15 filter is the highest MERV-rated, two-inch filter with the lowest energy expense* as a result of an initial pressure drop that’s up to 60% less than other MERV 15 two-inch filters.

The new filters improve indoor air quality (IAQ) by removing a minimum of 85% of particles sized 0.3 to 1.0 micron, including most types of bacteria, paint pigments and smoke. By comparison, typical MERV 4 and lower filters capture less than 20% of particles of this size. The advanced filtration makes these Lennox filters an ideal choice for sensitive applications such as smoking lounges and superior commercial buildings (per ASHRAE 52.2-2007).

The filters are also an excellent choice for businesses seeking certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. MERV 15 filters exceed the LEED minimum of MERV 13 and may help qualify for one LEED point under “EQ5: Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control”.

In addition to improved efficiency and IAQ, Lennox’ MERV 15 two-inch filters may also provide:

  • Reduced maintenance hours: Increased surface area indicates better dust-holding capacity, which may help lengthen the period between filter changes
  • Added energy-efficiency benefits: By capturing more particles, the filter may improve operational efficiency by reducing fouling on the evaporator

The new MERV 15 filters are available as a field-installed accessory for L Series® and S-Class™ rooftop units from Lennox, which help qualify for LEED points based on their efficiency, innovative design, ventilation and availability with R-410A refrigerant. (These rooftop units may also be purchased with MERV 11 filters.) The MERV 15 filters conform to UL900 Class 2 approval for the United States and Canada. * When considering all 2-inch filters with MERV 15 ratings at 492 fpm. Claim pertains to Lennox MERV 15 24"x24"x2" filter, which has the lowest pressure at 492 fpm among two-inch MERV 15 filters. Claim references the reduced energy expense of running a lower pressure-drop media compared to a filter with a higher pressure drop, while maintaining high particle capture without increasing energy costs associated with fan energy consumption. Established through internal review of comparative literature available to the general public in June 2007.
